All NYPD Officers on Patrol Will Have Body Cameras by End of 2018

All NYPD officers and detectives on patrol will be outfitted with body cameras by the end of 2018—one year earlier than the city scheduled, city officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The de Blasio administration and the police department initially anticipated officers would receive body cameras by the end of 2019.

De Blasio’s preliminary budget includes $5.9 million in fiscal year 2018, $12 million in fiscal year 2019 and $9.5 million in fiscal year 2020 in funding to permit the city to roll out the program earlier.

A civilian police misconduct board is prepared to move forward with charges against the cop who killed Eric Garner — but the NYPD is blocking the move, his mother charged.

Gwen Carr said officials at the Civilian Complaint Review Board told her in a meeting that the department has used an administrative maneuver to block the case from proceeding against Daniel Pantaleo, by refusing to issue a case number.

“We’re tired of waiting. We’ve been waiting for almost four years,” Carr said at a press conference outside City Hall Thursday.
