6/28/2012 - Joint Statement Regarding Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly’s Response to the Criticism of Stop-and-Frisk

Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) released the following joint statement today with 1199 SEIU, 32BJ SEIU, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund, and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.

June 17, 2012 - CPR joined thousands for Father’s Day Silent March to End NYPD Racial Profiling and “Stop-and-Frisk” abuse

Close to 1,000 members and supporters of Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) joined thousands of other New Yorkers in the Father’s Day Silent March down Fifth Avenue to call for an end to racial profiling and stop-and-frisk abuses by the NYPD. The CPR contingent spanned over two blocks as we marched down Fifth Avenue, with members from throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

6/13/12: Press conference to introduce legislation for oversight of the NYPD

6/13/2012:  Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) will be joining Council Members Jumaane Williams and Brad Lander and a diverse group of organizations today to announce the introduction of legislation to reform oversight of the NYPD. The landmark legislation would establish independent oversight of the police department by creating an Inspector General for the police department. The Office of the Inspector General would have subpoena power and all authority necessary to conduct reviews of police policies, practices, programs and operations.

June 17th, 3pm: Father's Day Silent March to End Racial Profiling & Stop-and-Frisk Abuses

Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) is joining the NAACP, National Action Network, 1199 SEIU and over 200 other community, labor and faith organizations on Father's Day, to march down 5th Avenue and call for an end to racial profiling and the massive expansion of stop-and-frisk abuses by the NYPD. Join tens of thousands of New Yorkers, as we shine a national spotlight on NYPD discriminatory policies and practices, like stop-and-frisk abuses.

CPR's Week of Action starts February 26: Stepping Up Resistance to Police Violence
